Alison Murray, K.C.
Alison Murray graduated from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law in 1982 and has practiced law since her call to the bar in 1983. After having practiced in two large downtown law firms, she started the firm Dickson Murray with her then partner Gail Dickson, QC and after Gail Dickson’s appointment to the bench, continued the practice in partnership with Karen Jamieson under the firm’s current name, Murray Jamieson. In 2024, Alison retired from the partnership and is now associate counsel.
Alison practices in the area of general litigation with an emphasis on insurance defence including disability and life insurance claims, personal injury and professional negligence. She is extremely active in the legal community and was from 1999 to 2023 on the Editorial Advisory Board to the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Accident Practice Manual (known as the bible for personal injury litigators in B.C.) and was a contributing author to the Continuing Legal Education publication, Civil Trial Handbook. In addition, she is a frequent speaker on a broad variety of topics of interest to civil litigators through such organizations as Continuing Legal Education, Canadian Defence Lawyers Association, Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia, Insight and as a guest lecturer at UBC Law School. In November 2015, Alison was awarded the Leader in Learning Award from Continuing Legal Education, an award given out every two years in recognition of extraordinary contributions to the enhancement of learning in the legal community. In July 2016, she was recognized by CLEBC as one of their most prolific volunteers.
Alison has a wealth of trial and appellate court experience and a proven track record achieving favourable resolutions for her clients through mediation. In January 2009, Alison’s excellence as counsel and contribution to the legal profession was recognized by an appointment as Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel). Her skill in the area of personal injury litigation has been recognized by inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada since 2012. The Best Lawyers in Canada is the most respected referral list in the legal profession and is based on an exhaustive peer review survey in which thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their peers. Alison was named the Best Lawyers’ Vancouver Personal Injury Litigation “Lawyer of the Year” in 2018 and Lawyer of the Year in Canada in 2023. In June 2020, she was awarded the prestigious Lee Samis Award of Excellence by Canadian Defence Lawyers.
Karen Jamieson, K.C.
Karen Jamieson was called to the British Columbia bar in 1993 and has worked as a civil litigator with an emphasis on insurance defence ever since. Her practice encompasses a wide variety of matters including personal injury; disability, travel and life insurance claims; property damage claims; professional negligence; contract disputes; mental health law; and sexual assault/historical abuse claims. She has represented clients at all levels of trial courts in B.C. and has acted as counsel at several Coroner’s Inquests.
The nature of her practice has allowed her to conclude many cases successfully through negotiation, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
Karen is also experienced appellate counsel and has appeared in the B.C. Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Karen is currently a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Canadian Defence Lawyers and B.C. Trial Lawyers Association. She served on the Executive of the Vancouver Young Lawyers section from 1995 – 1998 and was a member of the CLE Civil Litigation Advisory Committee for the 2000 – 2002 term. She has acted as a mentor in the Woman Lawyers Forum Mentorship Program.
Karen has been a contributing author of the Continuing Legal Education Society’s Motor Vehicle Practice Manual Chapter on Costs and Interest since 2006 and is now a member of the Editorial Board. She has been a speaker at several courses for the Continuing Legal Education Society and Canadian Defence Lawyers. Karen’s skill in the area of Insurance Law has been recognized by inclusion in “The Best Lawyers since Canada 2018”.
In 2021, Karen was appointed as Queen’s counsel, a distinction in the profession now referred to as King’s Counsel.
Alecia Haynes
Alecia Haynes works in civil litigation with a focus on insurance defence. She has a track record of successful cases, both in court, and resolved through negotiation and mediation. She has appeared before all levels of trial court in British Columbia.
Before coming to Murray Jamieson in 2019, Alecia worked as in-house counsel for a large insurance company.
Alecia graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Philosophy. She was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2017 after graduating from the University of Victoria with her Juris Doctor in 2016.
While at the University of Victoria, Alecia volunteered for Pro Bono Students Canada and the Legal Information Clinic, and participated in the Harold G. Fox Moot.
When not hard at work, Alecia can be found sailing around the Burrard Inlet and Salish Sea
Helene Walford
Helene Walford was called to the bar in June 2001 and has appeared as counsel before the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia. Helene has handled a wide variety of cases, including complex personal injury, insurance litigation, sexual assault claims, defamation, contract disputes, and property damage claims.
Helene also practices criminal defence, representing clients on a variety of charges including assault, robbery, theft, fraud, and drug offences. Helene co-authored the publication Post-Charge Delay: Is There Any Life Left in S.11(b)? The Advocate, Vol. 59, Part 6, November, 2001.
Helene has successfully represented clients at administrative tribunals and mediations, as well as in the B.C. Provincial and Supreme Courts. In 2010, Helene was appointed as a panel member of the Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal, deciding Employment and Assistance Program appeals from decisions of the Ministry of Social Development and Child Care Subsidy Program appeals from decisions of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Sarah Walker
Sarah Walker is a civil litigator practicing general civil litigation including personal injury and insurance defence. Sarah practised in Halifax, Nova Scotia before accepting a position at Murray Jamieson and returning to her home city of Vancouver. She has represented clients before the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia and has successfully resolved cases through alternate dispute resolution, including negotiation and settlement conferences.
Sarah graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Juris Doctor Degree in Law. Sarah merited Dean’s List recognition for ranking in the top ten of her class in her final year at law school. While attending law school, Sarah volunteered for the Legal Advice Clinic and chaired the Student Social Committee.
Sarah is passionate about health, travel, and reading. When not at work you can find her at the nearest gym or yoga studio.

Angela Cavasin is a consultant paralegal working with Murray Jamieson. Angela was born and raised in the Lower Mainland and completed the Legal Assistant Diploma program at Capilano College in North Vancouver in 1997, where she graduated with honours and placed on the Dean’s List. She began working with Murray Jamieson in 1998 and later transitioned to a consultant paralegal in 2017.
Angela has extensive experience in the area of insurance defence litigation with a focus on motor vehicle accident claims. She has also worked on plaintiff personal injury matters and on defence of disability claims and has assisted counsel at trial on several occasions. She is experienced in all aspects of defence litigation including drafting pleadings, lists of documents, court applications, retaining and instructing experts and obtaining and analyzing medical and income related documentation.

Callie Cheveallier joined Murray Jamieson in 2017 as a paralegal, after graduating from the paralegal program with honors from Capilano University in 2015. Her work at Murray Jamieson includes a variety of insurance defence files, including property damage, occupier’s liability, and motor vehicle as well as s.490 criminal code applications as agents for the Crown. Callie is currently completing her Bachelor of Legal Studies (Paralegal) Degree at Capilano University part-time. She enjoys hiking on weekends.

Colleen Grant is a paralegal and has been with Murray Jamieson since its inception in 1993. Colleen has worked with Alison Murray, KC since 1987 when both were employed at Lawson Lundell. Colleen was born in Castlegar and has lived in British Columbia, Trinidad and Brasil. She is a graduate of UBC, having earned a B.A. in 1982 in international relations and is also a graduate of Capilano College with a Legal Assistant’s Diploma in 1986.
Colleen has worked in the civil litigation area throughout her career. She has been involved on both plaintiff and defence matters in disability and travel insurance, personal injury, and some commercial litigation. In addition, Colleen has participated in Continuing Legal Education Society of B.C. presentations for paralegals and she has assisted counsel at trial. Colleen enjoys time with her family and gardening.

Seema Nand is a senior paralegal with over 25 years’ experience. She joined Murray Jamieson in April 2018 primarily in the practice of insurance defence litigation. Seema is experienced in handling all aspects of litigation matters including drafting pleadings and court applications, instructing and communicating with experts, gathering and analyzing medical and economic loss evidence and assisting counsel with trial preparation.

Monika Szyca obtained her Paralegal Diploma from Capilano University in 2010. After working at a national law firm, she joined Murray Jamieson as a paralegal in April 2017.
Monika currently works in the area of insurance defence litigation with particular emphasis on motor vehicle accident claims. She is experienced in handling all aspects of litigation matters. In her role, Monika assists with drafting pleadings and court applications, instructing experts, gathering and analyzing medical evidence and preparing lists of documents.
